Live Clips!

Welcome to the live section.  A misconception that one can have about Tom's show without seeing it is that it is only quiet, listening music.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

"The music recorded is music - how I do a live show, how I take it off the CD and out of the speakers and connect it with people's lives and experiences, more importantly, their own emotions.

Music, after all, is about life, probably more than notes." Tom

In the tradition of Hedges or Kottke, Fahey or Towner, Joan Baez or Ani DeFranco, Davis' silence or that of Dylan; Tuck's amazingly dry, outrageously funny stories, Tom Smith engages his audiences with his brand of humor and warmth.

From bringing a hush over a crowded coffee house to getting an auditorium full of people to their feet, Tom does have his own style of involving his audience and making the vision real and extremely personal.

Here are some short clips to bring you along on a journey to Planet Tom:

"Tuck and I have talked about the music and the differences between how I approach music, how they (Tuck and Patti) approach music and what our respective genre considers to be "music".

"Our conclusion was 'Undeniability'  (political pun intended) - say what you have to say and improve your communication until it is undeniable.

"Make the magic more.

"Along with the technical expertise, the emotions have to come through in the music so that it's undeniable.   It's the same way with a live show.  That's how you reach people." Tom
